BEGINNER ASTROLOGY
Who are we?

People have long looked into the stars trying to understand their purpose in life, and that's how Astrology came to be: the divination through the study of celestial bodies. You might be familiar with these celestial bodies from Prof. Pandora, your Astronomy teacher, so I won't dwell on this for too long. But before we look into the future, we firstly need to understand the past. The first step in Astrology, is to look at your birth chart, and identify it's three legs:

1. The Sun
The sky is divided into 12 fixed areas, represented by a constellation and depending on the constellation found behind the Sun on the day we were born, the Sun signs, or zodiac signs as you might know them, were created. The Sun speaks about your Ego and how you identify yourself, as seen below:
2. The Moon
The sign that the moon was in, at the time of your birth, speaks about your emotional side, that not many get to see. Your moon sign is what rules your decisions and guides you, when you need to feel safe, secure and looked after.

3. The Ascendant
Also known as the rising sign, is the constellation found on the Eastern Horizon at the moment of birth, and it represents how the others perceive you, which can easily contradict your Sun sign. How many times have we heard 'don't judge a book by its cover'? That's because when we meet someone new, we tend to see their rising sign traits first.

So it looks like we've been assigned certain traits and are governed by different elements and planets, based on our birthdays. So that should be pretty straight forward. All Libras are balanced, and cooperative because of the Air element; and all Aries are stubborn, and passionate because of the Fire element. Everything seems set in stone....Except our horoscopes are always different. And that's because, while everything else is fixed, we're not. As human beings, we grow older, we change, we have different aspirations, our past experiences can end up changing our perceptions. While the zodiac signs are 12 fixed areas on the sky, something keeps moving: the planets.

Although each planet is the ruler of one particular sign, enhancing its traits when visiting, their movements can impact the other signs just as much. While Jupiter is in Sagittarius, a sign it rules, we know it's time to start a great adventure, taking huge leaps. But in Capricorn, Jupiter is restrained by the more responsible sign, so we should go at measured pace instead.
When we analyse our birth charts, we also look at Houses and Aspects. You can find more information on these, as well as the Inner Planets, Outer Planets and Ruling Planets in Symbology for Seers.

In order to determine how the movement of the planets impacts our future, make sure to join me at NEWT level. But for now, time for some work.
